Rosette Fabric Tutorial with Michelle Philippi

I love handmade giftpackaging. It transforms the mostinexpensive and simple gift in to something so much more. It’s like food – you eat with your eyesfirst. Same thing with gift giving – letthem delight in the packaging first.

I bought some bags ofthose Lindt chocolate balls. They haveraspberry ones out for Valentine’s Day, did you know?! I dropped some in glassine bags and thenembellished for a pretty presentation.

This newfuschia rosette flower fabric from AMM is amazing. I don’t sew, and I don’t scrapbook so I’msure I didn’t do this beautiful piece justice, but I added in chunks of it tomy bag tags to really kick up the fancy factor.

I also used a lot of prettyvintage buttons and laceand pearltrim from AMM. My husband told methat these packages reminded him of the 20s and the flappers. I love that comment – mission accomplished!

Rosette Heart Pillow Tutorial

Not too long ago, Michelle got some wonderful rosette fabric in the store, in creme, fuchsia, and turquoise. Each color is sold in 12.5x12.5" squares for $3.99. She sent Michelle, Marie and I each a square to work with. Today, I'm going to be working with the creme fabric so here's a pic of the other two colors.

So are you ready for me to show you what I'm going to teach you how make? A vintage inspired heart pillow.

Step 1: The first thing you need is a heart template. You can either freehand a heart and cut it out or you can print and cut one out.

Step 2: Fold your fabric so that the right sides are touching and then pin your template in place.

Step 3: Cut around your template then remove the pins and set your template aside. You should how have two perfectly mirrored hearts.

Step 4: Pin your hearts together so that the right sides are touching and pin in place.

Step 5: Using a 1/2 inch seam allowance sew 3/4 of the way around the heart. Secure the beginning with a back stitch, but not the end. Once you have sewn 3/4 of the way around smooth the fabric along the thread to make sure that there is no gathering. Once everything is smooth back stitch the end.

Step 6: Turn the heart right side out and stuff with fiber fill.

Step 7: Turn the ends of the opening 1/2 inch inside the heart so that the right sides of the fabric are touching and pin in place.

Step 8: Using a slip stitch sew the opening closed making sure that you start your thread inside the pillow so your knot is hidden.

Step 9: Embellish your heart. I used a vintage safety pin and added a jewel and a metal heart.

Party Pockets Tutorial with Michelle Philippi

My aunt hosted a little New Year’s Day get-together and I thought it’d be cool to take something fun for the occasion. After Christmas I think a lot of people are tapped out either on money or desire to head out to shop, so I rummaged around the house to see what I could find to make my festive packages.

I knew I wanted to go with black and white and gold and silver and steer clear of Christmas type. I found a leftover box of gold Christmas crackers, pulled out all the remaining silver Hershey candies, found some gold & silver toy coins in the party box as well as some leftover party horns, and I had some silver Airheads candies in the pantry.

I had some little black lunch bags and folded those up to create pockets, and stitched some fun tinsel ribbon trim from AMM, along with some other gold ribbon that I had.

And then I embellished them with pretty silver and gold baubles from AMM.

And then I decorated the front of the bag, filled them, and now we’re party ready!

Creative Packaging with Rosette Fabric & Satin Wired Trim

Have you seen the rosette fabric that we have in stock at A Million Memories? I must confess that I first saw this fabric in passing when I was doing one of my monthly vintage runs for store product. I thought it was pretty but did not buy it. THEN, when watching one of my TV shows, I saw that someone had used the fuschia fabric on a box for their wedding invitations. It was so stunning that I immediately ran out and bought all the colors that they had left in stock, thinking that my creative customers (and blog followers) would see this and go crazy with their imagination.

This past weekend was my Mom's birthday, so I used the fabric to cover a paper mache box that I put a bracelet in. It was SO easy. I just cut out a piece of fabric - about 6 x 6 and then used Fabri-Tac glue to glue it all down. I cut off any excess pieces and covered the bottom and inside of the box with some coordinating paper (this was an old Rhonna Farrer design by Autumn Leaves).

Once it was covered, it still need a little something more, so I used some gray satin wired trim from the AMM store and tied a bow around it.

My Mom loved it! Packaging means so much in the presentation of a gift ~ if it's nice, it really makes the gift itself seem all the more special.

We still have some of the rosette fabric left in stock. We have fuscia, champagne and teal and all of these colors are fabulous for holiday type projects.

This is the satin trim that I used. We have peach, mint, gray and cream in stock.

I hope this has inspired you to try some creative packaging in your gift giving.

Chevron Stripes, Tinsel & Button Tags

We wanted to first share with you some of the new button tags that we have in stock in the A Million Memories store. These are all unique cards because the buttons are vintage ~ so when one card is gone, it's probably gone forever. With that in mind, here are just a few of the new button tags in stock now.

Our tinsel trims are really popular this year. We just added more into stock today, so if you haven't grabbed some yet ~ go for it and get to work on some of the Tinsel Trees we showed you last week. Here are a few colors that we have now.

So have you noticed the trend of Chevron stripes lately? I was a little late on this trend train, but not I'm loving it. I dedided to try it out on this layout that I did of the kids at the pumpkin patch this year. I found it on the backsides of a few popular manufacturer papers, that you might have in stock. If you don't we have them in the AMM store.

The other papers that I used here were Lily Bee Catching Fall and My Minds Eye Stella Rose with some fun American Crafts Thickers letters. I backed most papers and photos with colored cardstock because I liked the way that it made everything pop. Here's a close-up:

I’m really big on giving handmade things for birthday and Christmas gifts. Because I make so many cards, it’s easy for me to package up some cards and give a set. But lately I’ve been on a tag kick, so I think there are going to be a couple of people getting tag sets for Christmas this year.

Up first is a tag featuring stickers and chipboard from the Random collection by Crate Paper. I topped my butterfly with this gorgeous button from the A Million Memories Golds Button Tag and then tied off my ribbon with some beautiful vintage trim from the AMM shop.

And then I made a quick tag on a chipboard coaster with this scene-stealer of a trim from AMM. I first saw this trim and was like what the heck can I do with that? Oh it’s so fun! Little did I know!! It’s got an elastic band that makes it easy for tying, and your little fun ruffles just add party party everywhere.

IN OTHER NEWS ~

I showed you all my quick and easy tutorial on making cute little tinsel Christmas trees A few days ago. My Son loved them so much, he even wants to make them now because they are SO simple. My next quest is to make some little houses. But for now, I wanted to show you a little tree that I made with some AMM Crochet Sequins trim. I only used about 2 yards of the trim and then took another yard of the pink tinsle trim and some pink pearl bead trim and wrapped them together and wrapped them around the tree. This one is a little more over the top I think, than the others, but it does seem to fit in when I put them together. I need to make another one, just so I have an odd number. Think that one might be a gold tinsel or red tinsel. We'll see!

In my last post, I didn't mention how much of the trim that I used. I would say, depending on the size of your tree, you would use anywhere from 2 - 6 yards. Considering the tinsel is only about $.79 per yard and it's now be 1/2 price - that's a deal! ;) I'll try and add more tinsel colors to our store this weekend too. I'm thinking that some cute little wreaths and garlands and all kinds of fun things can be done with this trim. Here's a quick run down of what we have in stock right now:

This is the pink sequins crochet trim that I used. It is .89 per yard and the tree I made used a little more than about 2 yards. To make a few of these, I would get 5 yards. :) This is super affordable, considering the sale. You can find the pink trim HERE.

Here are all of the tinsel trims that we currently have in stock. We also have some that are sold as double up packs. These are all HERE and sell for $.79 per yard. I would double up and get about 3-5 yards of each of these colors to make your cute little trees!

Tinsel Christmas Tree Tutorial

Thought I'd share an idea with you that I had last night to make these cute little tinsel trees. It came when I started thinking about those cute little bottle brush trees that I always see at Christmas time. I always incorporate them into my projects, but wanted something with a little more punch and glamour because, as you know, Christmas is the time of year that we can totally over do it on the decorating ~ more is always better!

Each one of these little babies took me less than 10 minutes to make, so this SUCH a quick and easy project! They would be even more fabulous if you decorated them with the mardi gras beads (like I have pictured at the base of the trees), buttons, pearls, etc.

So, here I have a photo of the two of the trims that I used (you can find tinsel trims in the AMM store HERE , HERE and HERE.

Start off by just grabbing a spare sheet of some time of cardstock (I used a white background). You can use a 12 x 12, 8 x 8 or an 8 1/2 x 11 - you choose. I cut them from all different sizes because I wanted my trees to stagger. Then, roll up the paper from one of the corners (as shown below) and then glue down the flap on the side to the cone. You could probably staple it, but I haven't tried it that way yet. Just needs to be semi-secure.

As shown below, you will then cut off the base to the desired height that you want for your tree. Doesn't have to be perfect. Just make sure that it's pretty straight so that it will sit flat on a surface.

Then, starting from the point at the top of the tree, spread some glue about 2 inches all around the cone (I used Fabri-tac) and start wrapping your tinsel around it. Every 2 inches or so, I stopped and put down some more glue, then continued wrapping.

Here's what this little silver tree will look like when it's done. See! Seriously EASY PEASY!!!

I'm coming up with all types of ideas as I write this on what else I can do with these. They have glass candlestick holders at The Dollar Tree that you could sit these on top of ~ or even candlestick holders that you already have! Decorate away and have a ball! Hope this has inspired you!

Christmas Season Is Upon Us

While I am not ready to say goodbye to Autumn yet, I do see myself getting a little giddy the more I see the cute vintage images for Christmas. These remind me SO much of my maternal Grandmother (a.k.a. my Granny). I was lucky enough to inherit some of her cute little Christmas porcelain figurines that I truly cherish bringing out every year and they are reminiscent of the images that I wanted to share today. Please feel free to copy and use them in your projects. Aren't they just the cutest?

Package Pretty with AMM Goodies

I have been seeing so many amazing packaging ideas lately and thought I'd share a simple one that I used recently.

I'm not usually a fan of wrapping gifts unless it is Christmas, for some reason. I usually just go with a gift bag. Well, I had to get a gift the other day for someone that I work with (my boss) and I found this really pretty frame. I didn't feel like just putting it in a gift bag, so I went through some of the things we have in the A Million Memories store and found this really pretty french written twill trim and these little orange bouquet of flowers. Together, next to the wood on the frame, I thought made a perfect little seasonal gift.

Some Cards from Michelle Philippi Using Crate Paper & AMM Goodies

I’m so excited to be here today for the first time sharing some cards with you. I’m showcasing the Random collection by Crate Paper today in a couple different ways. So let’s get to it.

First up are a couple fairly quick and easy cards. As a working mom I don’t always have a ton of time to spend on each project, so I rely heavily on patterned paper and diecuts and chipboard to do a lot of the busywork for me. A couple of cuts of some patterned paper, lots of chipboard and a few easy embellies like buttons and pearls and we’re done. The Random chipboard stickers and cardstock stickers did everything here, I pretty much kicked back on these ones.

Those cards are sort of fallish too, I might add. I love that this particular collection allows you to create for several seasons as you can see with these next couple of very springy cards. Again I’ve got the Random paper, chipboard and stickers, but then I prettied up even more with some great vintage bits from AMM. Among these special pieces are this layered dainty flower that I topped my chipboard rose with, and some beautiful silver embellishments from AMM’s white/silver mix button tag that I used here and there as well.

Halloween Countdown Tutorial by Marie Ramirez

Halloween is approaching quickly and if you have kids, I'm sure they are excited. I made this Halloween countdown so I didn't have to answer that question 5 times a day until Halloween. Here we go.

Supplies:
Heavy duty glue (I used beacon 3 in 1)

Scissors

Tweezers

Halloween paper (I used Girls Paperie Toil & Trouble - you can find it here)
Chalkboard

Black hat pins

Clear gems

Black Tulle

1. Start out by cutting circles. I used 1 inch - 3 inch circles. You will need at least 25 circles and if you have a circle punch - even better! I cut mine out by hand because they don't need to be perfect. Remember here that we want to have varied sizes.

2. Cut your circles into spirals.

3. Grasp the beginning of the spiral with your tweezers and begin to twirl. Remember that the inside of the circle is what is going to give your flower the color. The outside does not matter.

5. As you get to the end you should have a small circle at the end to glue your flower to. Place a glue dot or a strong dot of glue and push down.
Look at that! Your rose is done!

7. Now you'll need to paint your chalkboard frame black. Once dry, go ahead and glue down your roses. I ended up putting the larger ones in the corners and varied my sizes throughout. Stagger them and glue 'em down.

8. Fill in any bare spots with your tulle. Glue and pinch.

9. To finish it off, I added bling to some of the roses. I didn't want them all to have it just some to give it that little flash.

Now, just cut out a bat attach your hat pins. Viola! Halloween countdown complete!

My Make Shift Idea for Flowers

Hi all! So, I began doing a little fall decorating this weekend. I was super lucky this year and found a huge bag full of fall florals a few months back at a yard sale for just $2.00! It included candle rings, flowers, garland, leaves ~ major SCORE!!! I went to work over the weekend and put together a quick bouquet for our dinner table. The thing that I dislike most about silk flower arrangements is the way that the stems look in the vases. With my summer floral bouquet, my Mom suggested that I fill the bottom of the glass vase with coordinating buttons. It turned out super cute, so for my fall florals, I really wanted something just as creative. What I came up with was using a bunch of scrap lace. Have you seen this one in the AMM shop (only $.69 per yard)?

Well, I took a bunch of this lace and stuffed it in the bottom of the glass vase and really like the way that it turned out. Just gave it kind of a soft look and covered up some of those ugly stems that I was talking about.I then took some sheer dotted trim and wrapped that around the vase into a bow and added the berry candle holder to the bottom.

Meet our newest design team member Michelle Philippi

My name is Michelle Philippi – and I live in Idaho.

I’m a wife to a fantastic guy who supports my crazy adventures, and I’m a mother to the 2 cutest little redheads you ever did see. I’m a working mom, but at the same time I strive to be Super Mom.

In my “spare time” you will find me and all my chubby cheeks plopped down at my craft table making cards, goodie bags for the kids’ parties, school and church functions, and making gift tags too. I’m all about the heartfelt and handcrafted – but at the same time I’m all about the quick & easy. I don’t have the time or the patience to make anything that takes more than an hour.

I started cardmaking the beginning of 2009 and have been hooked ever since. Today we are going to be inspired by friendship. I just love this photo that I found on Pinterest. It kinda takes you back to the days of Mayberry. The soft subtle hues bring a since of peace and seems to slow the hurried pace of life. Whether the picture portrays three friends or three sisters is unknown, but one thing is for sure it portrays a deep friendship.

So I thought it would be kind of fun to turn our member LO's into sketches, so each week I'm going to choose a LO and from the AMM gallery and turn it into a sketch. As I was browsing through the AMM gallery last night I came across this adorable LO by Kate Vickers:

I kept to the basic elements in the LO; the photo, the star burst, and the subtitle in the corner. Those three elements make up the visual triangle pretty much all you need to stick to, to make an awesome LO inspired by Kate.

I have been so addicted to Pinterest lately and really feel that it has given me a little kick in the pants as far as being inspired by color, fashion, style and even my culinary skills (as if I really had them -- not)! I notice that one of the hottest new trends today is the aqua and yellow color combination. Thought I'd share a few color palette bursts with you so you would see what I mean (note that all of my photos are courtesy of Pinterest).

This color combo can even be found in home fashions, such as here in this beautiful bedding and this TO DIE FOR wall hanging.

Now for today I'm going to post 5 photos that inspire me.

This is such a cute shot. You could use this pose for so many things including documenting a child's love for a certain sport.

This one hits close to home. We have a little vacation home on a lake and we've got so many good memories at that lake. I would love to take a picture like this with my kiddos.

I love this summer shot and how the photographer decided to add the pops of color to the wand and the flowers.

This one is my favorite. Don't you wish the people who set up carnivals set the rides up with photographers in mind. I love everything about this picture!

This one reminds me that no matter what is going on find the joy in every situation.

Fun Tip Friday with Jennifer Longenecker

Today I am going to show you a quick and easy way to alter a few mason jars to add a little touch of country to your home. First gather your supplies. You will need several mason jars, black and white photos, wood blocks, and sand.

Step 1: Fill the bottom of each jar with sand. You need about an inch or so of sand.

Step 2: Insert your photos into each jar pushing the photo into the sand.

Step 3: Add words to your wood blocks. I asked the kids to describe their favorite thing about summer using one word and this is what they came up with.

Step 4: Add the wooden block to each jar pushing the bottom into the sand. Paint the lids black and then tie some twine around the neck of the jar and your done. You can also add some christmas lights for a little more fun. Unfortunately I couldn't find any for this tutorial.

I am always looking for little containers and things to organize my scrap space. I love using mists but dont like having a big box just for that. I also didnt have one handy, ran to my kitchen and found a metal roaster pan.

It isnt lovely, but it works really well.

Place whatever it is you want misted in and spray your little heart out. The cool thing is that it doesnt absorb into the metal (like a box) sooo you can do all kinds of cool things with it!

Now I think I will have to try to find a old roasting pan, just cuz it looks prettier haha!

What's Up Wednesday with Jennifer Longenecker

This week we are going to focus on Blocking. Blocking is a form of scrapboooking where the Creator will design their LO around a group of pictures that are in a similar shape. For my LO I chose to use a hexagon shape.

Step 1: Start by cutting out several shapes, some smaller than the others, then lay the shapes out on your page and get an idea of where you want everything to go. This is a good time to mark where you want everything to go.

Step 2: Start placing some embellishments on and around your shapes.

Step 3: Once you have determined the placement of your elements take your pattern paper shapes and add texture with paint, ink, and distressed edges.

Step 4: Now take each shape and adhere it to your LO. Next treat each shape as its own LO and add embellishments. I used a little trim, some chipboard, and some rub-on's. I also added a little doodling on a few pieces.

Step 5: To finish off the LO outline a few of your shapes with some embroidery floss then add your title and journaling and your done.

Today I am going to walk you through how to make a flower from tissue paper. Check it out...

Step 1: Take a piece of tissue paper of your choice. Fold it several times. Using two different sizes of circles (in this case I used chipboard), cut the tissue paper with scalloped scissors or other tool you have at home.

Step 2: Drill a hole through all the clippings and attach the smaller circle on top of the larger circle with a mini brad.

Step 3: Use your fingers to soften the tissue toward the center. Ready! Now just use the flower made of tissue paper on your next scrapbook project!

What's Up Wednesday with Marie Ramirez

Today I am going to show you how to make a glowing paper lantern with tissue paper. Gather all your supplies.

Supplies needed
scissors
mod podge
tissue paper
jar
paint brush
candle

1. Choose your tissue paper colors. You can also add splashes of light weight paper and crepe paper to your lantern.

2.Cut into long strips.

3. Start painting on your mod podge to the outside of the jar. I wouldn't do the entire jar as it dries fast-ish. Work with a designated area.

4. Start laying down your strips of paper where you placed your mod podge. This does not have to be perfect. It is fun to over lap edges.

5. To add a little more texture I cut a heart out of streamers and used both the inside and the outside of it for my lantern. Paint over the paper with the mod podge and adhere your extra bits.

6. Let dry.

7. Pop a tea light in and viola easy paper lantern. The kids would really enjoy this one also!

Fun Tip Friday with Ro Philippsen

Today I'm going to show you a fun way do a quick and easy paper quilting project. All you need is 2 different styles of patterned paper. I used a floral and a yellow.

First cut 3 squares of each paper. Then cut one square diagonally from each color forming triangles like the picture below.

Distress each piece with a brown stamp pad.

Put your pieces together to create a fun quilt paterrn.

Use this technique for cards, tags or scrapbooking pages.

Hello, this week we are going to be focusing on Paper Quilting. I will explain step by step how to do a scrapbook layout using this technique.

Step 1: Cut several squares of paper scraps, then cut them into triangles as shown. Edge some of the triangles with ink and apply 3D adhesive to others.

Step 2: Adhere the triangles to your LO as shown then add photos.

Step 3: Add your title and embelishments to decorate, then draw few lines with a pen to highlight a few areas of your LO.

Step 4: To add a fun element to your LO using string use glue to doodle a loop-da-loop to two corners of your LO and then add string to the glue.

Okay, here's what your finished layout will look like.

Fun Tip Friday with Jennifer Longenecker

Today I'm going to show you some of my favorite ways to add texture to your page elements with a little paint or ink. First grab your supplies. You will need some of your favorite paint colors, a can, some inks, a clean dish, a dish full of water, and a few flat tipped paint brushes.

Paint Technique 1: Cup Stain.

To achieve this look with out the cost of a stamp simple add a little dab of paint to your clean dish and then add some water to your paint with your paint brush.

Next paint the bottom rim of your can and stamp in place. Don't worry about the paint being a little runny ... it's a good thing if it is because your image will look more natural. You can re-stamp several times to get varying degrees of color.

Paint Technique 2: Edging with Paint

In stead of adding water to paint this time you are going to add paint to your water. Starting with a clean dish of water add a drop of of paint to the water and then stir with the tip of your paint brush.

Next using just the tip of your flat brush add the paint to the edges of your element. Allow the paint to dry and then add more paint for a more vibrant edge.

Paint Technique Step 3: Paint Mat

For this step you are going to add water to your drop of paint just like you did in the first technique. Then just brush across your work area to create a mat for a photo or other page element. The watered down paint dries with really cool variances in the texture.

Paint Technique 4: Making your own mist/ splatters

If you use a particular paint a lot it might be a good idea to turn that paint into a mist. To do this you will need a small spray bottle, some water and some paint. Add paint to the bottom of your bottle and then add water and shake to mix. Keep adding paint until you achieve thee color you are looking for. To create splatters dip your paint brush into the bottle, hold the paint brush over the area you want to splatter and then hit the top of the paint brush with your other hand.

You can do each of these techniques using any kind of paint or ink. One of my favorite inks to use is walnut ink.

I do not know about you, but I'm totally in love with paint splashes on layouts. Today I am going to show you some different ways we can create these splashes.

1 – With glimmer mist: Uncap your mists and shake onto paper. This will add droplets of mist.

2 - With spray cans: spray paint into a lid and drip the paint onto paper

3 – With brush: Dip the brush into the paint and tap it to spread the spill.

4 - With toothbrush: Slide your finger over the bristles, and you will see the ink spread on paper.

Today I am going to show you how to make fairy umbrellas or drink umbrellas. What ever you prefer.

Supplies
scrapbook paper
strong glue
punch (circle or scallop)
bamboo skewers

1. Gather your supplies. The size of the punch is going to determine the size of the umbrella. I used a 3 inch scallop punch.

2. Punch circles or scalloped circles with your punch.

3. Cut a pie shape about 1 inch wide to the middle of the circle.

4. Join circle together and glue.

5. Glue your skewer to the inside with a very Strong glue or glue dot.

These would be adorable in a little fairy garden or hanging out in a nice cool glass of lemonade! Enjoy!

What's Up Wednesday with Jennifer Longenecker

This week we are focusing on projects to help out around the house. I'm going to show you a real simple way to keep track of chores. With five kiddos I've tried a few different ways to keep track of weekly chores and I have found these envelopes to be the most effective. Each kid gets one and they are placed on the refrigerator. We rotate the chore cards every Saturday. There's also room to include a daily schedule if needed.

To get started you are going to need some card stock, patterned paper, an envelope template, and pictures of your kiddos.

Step 1: Print the following envelope template onto card stock and cut out.

Step 2: Trace the template onto the back side of your pattern paper and cut out.

Step 3: Fold the tabs where indicated on the template.

Step 4: Glue the small tab to the inside of the envelope. This will give you a clean top edge.

Step 5: Glue the two side tabs to each other then glue the large tab to the outside of the envelope.

Step 6: Add a photo to the front of the envelope.

Step 7: Cut the plain card stock to 2.75x4.50. Round the corners and stamp the chore onto the tab. Insert the card into the envelope and you're ready to go.

We have seen many layouts that use envelopes in many different ways. I myself am completely addicted to, and love it and think that it gives a special charm to ones work. There are beautiful envelopes from Maya Road and there are also stationery envelopes. When used with creativity these envelopes can be a very nice feature on your LO!

So today, I'll show you how to use an envelope on a scrapbook page. This technique will work well when you have lots of travel photos and souvenirs you want to use on a page without taking up too much room in your scrapbook. Here we go!

What you will need:
- A background paper
- Some sheets of color coordinated with the background
- 1 envelope size approximately 10x7 inches (can be Kraft, brown, white), color is irrelevant.
- Punch circle measuring 1,5 inches and 1 inch
- And the tools and glues

Step 1 - The first step is to get the envelope to the size you want. In my case I wanted my envelope in the size 9 x 6 inches. Then I cut the brim of it, opened the bottom, and an open side, leaving him as 6 x 9 "(inches)

Step 2 - Mark off 3 inches vertically and score it.

Step 3 - Now glue the envelope on the horizontal where it was open when you cut it. You should have two sides left open that will be turned into pockets later.

Step 4 - Cut three rectangles from coordinating paper of various colors using the following measurements

1: 6 x 3.5 "(this should be scoring 0.5 ', as 3.5')
2: 6 x 3 '
3: 6 x 6 '

Notice in the photo, you can not see very well, that the first paper has been scored.

Step 5 - And here we begin to cover the envelope with paper. Note that I glued the short end of the scored sheet to the back of the envelope and wrapped the rest around to the front.

Step 6 - And now the inside of the envelope.

Step 7 - With a circle punch, punch a half circle on the side of the envelope.

Step 8 - Cut the following tags:

Step 9 - Glue on pictures and decorate the tags on front and back.

Step 10 - Now it is time to glue your envelope to your background paper. Note that I glued the back of the envelope (the side not covered with paper) to the page.

Step 11 - The next step is to insert the tags into the pockets formed by the envelope, and decorate the page!

Summer is well upon us. The heat has been tremendous here. The kids are out of school and we need to keep them entertained. Why not do that with a summer bucket list! All you need is a container, clothes pins and a sharpie. You could also decorate the clothes pins with scrapbooking paper and then pin your lists with the pins instead.

Hi all. We are currently working to clear out all items in stock, including goodies from CHA Winter in order to get ready for all of the new stuff that will be coming in at the end of the summer. I want to introduce you to our newest design team member Nayda Rocha.

We are thrilled that Nayda has chosen to be part of the A Million Memories team. I can't wait to see what she does with the fabulous kits Michelle puts together and I bet neither can you. Here's a little more about Nayda.

I'm Nayda Rocha, 24, and from Brazil. I have been scrapbooking since 2005. I graduated in Architecture and Urbanism, and am currently taking a masters course. I also teach scrapbooking classes in my town. When I was a kid I liked to design and craft, and was always interested in art. Scrapbooking was love at first sight! I love to be inspired by nature, photographs, papers and vibrant colors when working on a LO. I use many different layouts and I love to be innovative in my creations!

Today I'm going to show you how to use the collage technique to create this fun banner.

Grab your supplies. You will need a shaped chipboard album, paint, modpodge and other fun items like book pages, masking tape, tickets, fabric, stencils, etc.

Step 1: Paint each chipboard page. Since we are going for the collage look just do a dry wash so that some of the natural page is showing and so the paint appears thicker in some areas than others.

Step 2: Using Mod Podge sdd torn pieces of book pages making sure to overlap several pieces.

Step 3: Using water colors paint over thee book page strips

Step 4: Add strips of masking tape. Again making sure to overlap the strips.

Step 5: Add a line of acrylic paint over each masking tape section with a paint brush then get the brush wet and continue the brush the paint over each section.

Step 6: Again using the Mod Podge add torn strips of fabric.

Step 7: Paint a stencil or stamp with acrylic paint and stamp in bare areas.

Step 8: Add your sentiment.

Step 9: Tie on torn strips of fabric to complete the banner.

Today I have sharing with you, a collage tutorial!

1 - First I cut squares of various patterned papers. I used four different papers of the amazing Lilybee Design, that you can find at the A Million Memories on line store. Each square measures two inches.

2 - Then I drawing a border 1,75 inch from the outside of my 12x12 cardstock, with a pencil.

3 - Now I glue each square of patterned paper to my background, like on the picture.

4 - On the squares already glued I spent a very thin layer of Handicraft acrylic Primer. I could also use gesso or just white acrylic paint.

5 - To spread the acrylic base, I used a sponge brush, because the result is much better. See the result:

6 – And now I add my photo, title and some embellishments, and viola. Here is my page:

Here are a few ideas from Marie that will insprie you to create something to decorate your outdoor space.

I am so inspired by images on pinterest I thought I would share some with you.

Why not make a windchime out of some scrapbooking supplies. I know we all have keys and crystals. Lots of fun things we can use.

Or decorate some glass bottles you have around with some scraps of lace and scrapbook paper. This would look lovely on a picnic table and super simple to duplicate.

Grab some supplies and start creating!

Alter a Jar with Michelle

Do you have a collection of empty glass jars that the mayonnaise or salad dressing comes in? I save all of the containers and jars that food from the grocery store comes in. I also have quite the selection of acrylic paints that I don't seem to use much any more (even though I love projects that involve painting). So today, I'm going to show you a little something that you can do with those empty jars and paints.

First off, here's the supply list:

1 glass jar
1 bottle of acrylic paint - I used Making Memories Manila
Rubons - I used October Afternoon 5 & Dime rubons for the red flowers and wording and October Afternoon Thrift Shop border rubons - both from the A Million Memories store.
1/2 yard of red and white gingham ribbon

Step 1: Squirt the paint into the jar
Step 2: Swirl the paint around until it covers the entire jar. Use a little water to help it move around if your paint is a little thick. Don't worry about getting the paint on the top rim. You'll be covering that up. Also, if you get a little paint on the outside of the glass, once it's dry, you can just scrape it off with your fingernail.
Step 3: Make sure that the outside of the jar is dry dry dry!!! Firmly apply your rubons. If you are using border rubons like I did with the yellow posies around the top, just wrap them around the jar and rub!
Step 4: Top off your jar with a bow that you wrap around the top lid of the jar.

I'm not sure if I'm going to use this just as a pencil holder on my desk, or if I'll put a tealight in it and use it on my porch of 4th of July. If you choose to put a tealight in it, make sure that the paint inside is dry and I think you can take the tealight out with a pair of kitchen tongs. However you use it, I hope you'll give it a try and put your own spin on it!

What's Up Wednesday with Jennifer Longenecker

This week we are focusing on the great outdoors and today I'm going to show you a quick way to make a super cute book for all those "weird" things you find outdoors that you can't resist taking a picture of.

I started with a Jenni Bowlin book and peeled away the top layer to reveal the rough chipboard underneath for a more natural look. Then I paper pieced together a tree from scrap paper and added a title.

Here's a close up of the tree trunk. I used a brown paper then coated it with walnut ink and let it dry. Once it was dry I added a crackle glaze.

For the inside pages I painted a photo mat using walnut ink then adhered a wallet sized photo. Next I doodled around the photo and added a heart cut from patterned paper and embossed with clear embossing powder.

Here's a look at the rest of the pages. I still need to add a few of our more recent finds, but you get the idea.

Ro also asked Leila a few questions to help us get to know her better. Here's what she had to say...

Why do you scrapbook? I do scrapbook to save the moments of life, love making pages for my children, I believe they have all their memories and wonderthey portrayed adults recalling all those moments through the scrap.

What is your favorite source of inspiration? I'm addicted sketches, but I am also inspired by music and color combos, although color combos can be a bit more difficult. But I must confess that my greatest source of inspiration are my children!

How long do you spend on your average layout? I usually do a LO in two or three hours.

What is your favorite color combination? I love all colors, but I like it and wear it pink and blue on my pages, yellow is another color that I use too ...

Describe your style. Wow .. I do not have a defined style yet, I passed them all, but I confess that I prefer and am more inclined to abuse the elementsin the "happy"style!

Today I am going to share an idea for a little gift to please your teacher.

ITEMS YOU NEED:
clothespin
cardstock: one neutral and another colorful
distress ink
thickers
small plastic bags
candy (I used MM)
ribbon

How do it:

Step 1: cut out two tags, one of withe cardstock, and other of colored paper--one slightly larger than the other.

Step 2: Ink all edges.

Step 3: Adhere the white tag to your colored tag.

Step 4: Glue a small strip of paper of the clothespin and ink all edges

Step 5: Fill the bag with candy, fold over the top, then clip it onto the card using the clothespin.

Step 6: Tie a ribbon around the clothespin.

Step 7: Add a title and you're done.

With this being the last week of school for many people a couple of our designers are going to share a few teacher appreciation ideas. I love vintage looking things and wanted to do something with an embroidery hoop. This may not be very "vintage" but you get the idea.

For this project you will need an embroidery hoop (I chose one of the smaller hoops), canvas circle cut larger than the embroidery hoops, 3 paper circles, 3 AMM vintage flowers, chipboard letterers, alpha stickers, embroidery floss.

Step 1: Glue your AMM vintage flowers to the center of your pattern paper circles.

Step 2: Cut small slits in the paper around the vintage flowers.

Step 3: Glue the flowers to the canvas and pull up every other petal on the pattern paper circle you just cut.

Step 4: Add your sentiment, then place your canvas circle inside the embroidery hoop.

Step 5: Add stems and leaves to the vintage flowers using embroidery floss. Cut the edges of the canvas ....

... and you have a cute little gift for a special teacher.
