Design team Challenge with Lucy Edson!

Time for another design team challenge, this time from Lucy Edson. Read on to find out more about this challenge and how you can win an awesome RAK from our resident mixed media artist!

Hi, ladies! I've got a little challenge and RAK for you! You all know how much I love fabric and often incorporate it into my layouts, so my challenge is to use fabric on a layout in any way you choose. I will choose one of the entries to win a set of fabric pieces from my collection - and believe me, my collection is extensive! Here is a sample to get you started using the new Basic Grey Lemonade collection and some fabrics by Amy Butler and Kaffe Fassett.

Technique Tuesday with Hilde Janbroers

Hilde likes to use circles in her layouts using her EK Success Circle Cutter but you can get the same great effect using other circle objects you have around the house. The obvious is plates, bowls, or cups but what about:

a roll of duct or masking tape

a CD

a candle base

a vase opening

a jar

a container lid

or even free hand drawing one for a more handmade feel.

Circles can give your layout a sense of flow and are great for layering behind a picture. Check out these layouts Hilde made that incorporate circles.

Member Monday with Wendela Lam

"Sun & Sea" by Raffa

Wendela caught up with Raffaella to ask her a few questions.

1. How long have you been scrapbooking? I’m a scrapbooker for one and a half years now.

2. What three supplies could you not scrap without? Flowers, lace and butterflies.

3. What is your favorite part about scrapbooking? I love making memories with scrapbooking for my kids.
4. What are your favorite products or manufacturers? Graphic 45, My Mind’s Eye, and Prima flowers

Little Something Sunday with Tonya Dirk

Need a quick card for a special occassion or just to say "hi" to a friend. Try making this one by Tonya Dirk.

Instructions:
1) Make a 5x7 card base out of cardstock
2) Cut ten 2x2 inch squares out of patterned paper
3) Ink and distress all of the edges of all of the squares
4) Adhere nine of them to the card, the squares on the right and left edges will hang off, turn the card over and cut off the overhang
5) Machine stitch a zigzag stitch along the bottom and top edge of the squares, or you could use faux stitches with a a rub on or draw them on
6) Adhere felt flower to card, and decorate with some hand stitching
7) Use Crackle paint on chipboard leaves, once dry ink up and then adhere to card
8) Apply 1 1/2" circle of patterned paper to last square and then apply a sentiment to that. Adhere to card using pop-dots.
9) Ink edges of card.

July Design Team Reveal

The design team is hard at work finishing up projects using the July kit. Due to manufacturer delays, the kits were a little alte shipping out to us. But we do have a few projects to show you and plenty more to come.

One thing I love about this tea is the diversity in styles as you will see below.

First up is this one by Larissa Albernaz. The team decided to challenge one another this month to create a shaped layout in the spirit of Rachel's class. I love this cupcake shaped layout and the use of actual cupcake liners.

"Blue or Brown" by Karen Grunberg Here's another shaped layout using a bracket shape. I love how the two tones of the papers is echoed throughout including the title and the embellishments, plus who doesn't love a baby photo.

"Life Continues" by Jennifer Findlay I traced a Jenni Bowlin 4x4 label paper onto the Prima paper to get the small bracket shaped background on here and overlapped it with the Bingo card and the Pink Paislee rub on over top of the photo. I really like to use a lot of white space.

"Big Hug" by Hilde Janbroers Hilde added some pretty white flowers and gave her photo center stage by placing it right in the middle of the layout.

"The Way You Make Me Mist"-Design Team Challenge with Mia!

Misting!!
Ok, so I just had to do that as the title! Hee!

Well, I think it's pretty much been established that I love to mist & I love finding different & new ways to use them as well as new kinds of mist. There are a ton out there right now like Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Maya Road Maya Mist, Shimmerz Spritz, etc. So, I think it's a no brainer what my challenge for you is. Duh! I know you all have some form of mist in your stash. For this challenge, I want to see some form of misting on your pages! Easy peasy huh? Here's one example of misting:



You can find more examples in my gallery. Should you need any more ideas on misting, there is a misting PDF in the NSD forum. So time to bring out your mists! Can't wait to see your pages!

Technique Tuesday with Susan Dupre!

"Think Outside the Box"
When it comes to scrapping you don't always have to use the traditional scrap supplies. Here I used a bottle cap and beads to make the center of a flower.

1. You can see that I made a template first for my flower to gauge the size I would need.

2. I then cut my flower out of my pattern paper.

3. To create my flower I used a pencil to roll the edges down to give it more dimension.

4. Next I glued the bottle cap to the center of my flower.

5. I then added my glue to the center of the bottle cap and added beads to the center.

Voila, a pretty and creative flower using non-traditional supplies.
