Dressing Up Simple Layouts

I like to do simple layouts. Not because they are quick but because I've noticed, over the years, that my favorite layouts have a beautiful photo and some deep journaling. The rest is really optional for me and often gets in the way of telling the story. So lately, I've been focusing on creating layouts that are really simple and keep the focus on the photos and the story. But, of course, I can't resist dressing them up a bit so this is where I take out my awesome border punches and create a thin strip that I then attach to the back of my layout to add a bit more color and to create a little bit of interest. It doesn't take away from the photo or the story but it does add a little bit of fun to my page.

Here's another example I made recently with a different border punch.

If you don't have a border punch, you can achieve the same effect by taking any small punch, a small strip of paper and just punching out holes. It might take a lot longer but it will work. If you've been hoarding punches like I am, here's a perfect excuse to put them to work.
